Embracing Summer with a Good Book: My Summer 2024 Reading List

Beach scene with aqua waves and sand with the text "Busy Playing. What are your plans?"

Summer is here, and for me, it's the perfect time to slow down, unwind, and dive into some fantastic books. Whether you're lounging by the pool or soaking up the sun at the beach, there's nothing quite like getting lost in a great story or gaining new insights from a thought-provoking read. Here’s what I’m excited to read this summer:

My Summer Reading Highlights

1. Never Search Alone: A Job Seeker's Playbook by Phyl Terry This book aligns wonderfully with the Lead Your Career framework, emphasizing the power of community, listening tours, reverse exit interviews, candidate market fit, and OKRs. It’s packed with practical advice and actionable insights for anyone looking to take their career to the next level.

2. From Strength to Strength by Arthur Brooks An inspiring exploration of transitioning gracefully from one life phase to another, this book offers practical advice on living a richer, more satisfying life while leading your career. It's a thought-provoking read that promises to resonate with anyone seeking purpose and fulfillment.

3. Big Potential by Sean Achor This game-changing book makes a compelling case for shifting from a competitive mindset to one of cooperation. It’s the perfect complement to the Stewart Leadership Manager Skills workshops, highlighting how collective success can amplify individual achievements.

4. Taming Your Gremlin by Rick Carson Aligning seamlessly with the Positive Intelligence program, this insightful book helps readers understand and manage their inner critic, or "gremlin." It’s a valuable resource for anyone looking to enhance their mental well-being and personal growth. If you’re traveling or not particularly fond of reading, you can check out the Taming Your Gremlin Series on YouTube.

BONUS! If you’re curious to learn more about your inner critic or judge, take this free assessment to discover your saboteurs. Want to discuss your results? Schedule an Exploratory Consultation with me!

5. West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge For something fictional and different, I recommend "West with Giraffes." This enchanting tale takes readers on an unforgettable journey across America, intertwining history, adventure, and the incredible story of two giraffes. It’s the perfect read for a relaxing afternoon.

Final Thoughts

As I embark on this journey of play and relaxation, I hope to inspire others to do the same. Taking time to unwind and enjoy life’s simple pleasures is not just a luxury; it’s a necessity for maintaining a balanced and fulfilling life. Here’s to a summer filled with joy, adventure, and, most importantly, great books! So grab your favorite spot by the pool and get lost in a wonderful read.
